Hello fellow paper crafters! Today I have a Cardmaking Tutorial where I show you how to make an Elegant Open Book greeting card, using intricate frame dies that you already have! I will be using the Amazing Paper Grace die-set of the month from Spellbinders.

I just love the concept of open-book greeting cards. You can make them as simple or as intricate as you like.

Cardmaking Tutorial Open Book Card Measurements

For this greeting card, you will want to use heavier card stock (80 lb or better). If heavier card stock is not available, you can substitute with water color paper. Check out my supplies list with links down below.

ALL MEASUREMENTS ARE GIVEN IN INCHES

Card Stock – 10.5 x 7

Card Base – 5 1/4 x 7

Score front of card base – 2 5/8

Trim 2 strips of designer paper (for base) – 2 1/2 x 6 7/8

Die-cut the backing. This is your first solid layer.

Die-cut two pieces of the filigree design (use complementing mirror or glitter card stock).

Die-cut one piece of central design (use complementing mirror or glitter card stock).

Trim one piece of a solid “storybook” paper – 4 5/8 x 6 1/2 (This will be your background page).

Trim front piece of “storybook” paper – 4 5/8 x 6 1/4

INSIDE OF GREETING CARD

Card Making Tutorial - October 2021

This step is optional. As for me, I like to mat the inside of my cards for that wow effect.

Trim first mat – 5 x 6 3/4

Trim plain card stock – 4 1/2 x 6 3/8

TIP: Use a basic rectangular die or a We R Memory Keepers frame punch board, to knock out the inside of the frame. This saves you glitter paper in the long run, as you’ll be able to use the remaining piece on a different project. Once you add the card stock on the front, no one will know there’s a hollow part behind the card stock! I normally use the half inch mark on my punch board.
